Pinguicula primuliflora
Plant shown is representative of our plants in
3-inch pots.
In our opinion, this butterwort is the best for
beginners! As with all species of Pinguicula, the leaves are covered with sticky dew. Small
gnats and flies get caught in the leaf coating, where they drown. Then the leaves
roll up over the insects, and digestion begins!
As they mature, these butterworts produce beautiful
lilac-colored flowers. However, growing them from seed is not necessary, as they
freely make small plantlets wherever the older leaves touch the ground!
This tray of butterworts isn't selected for
photographing; this is what we sell!
We currently carry well-started plants in three-inch pots. Many
are already producing plantlets in their pots! We do not sell butterworts bareroot, as we believe
the minimal savings versus potted plants does not outweigh the good possibility that bareroot
butterworts may not survive the shipping and transplanting.
